International Driver's License

http://www.aaa.com/vacation/idpf.html

I got my International Driver's License today. Very simple process. I filled out the form online and printed it. Then took it to the nearest AAA office. They made a copy of my Florida Driver's License filled out the booklet and took my mug shot (picture). The fee is $15 for license and $10 for photo. It took all but 10 minutes. I am not ready to drive in Guyana. The big question is WILL I drive. At least I have a license just in case I grow a pair.... We shall see, stay tuned!

Flooding in Guyana

http://www.guyanachronicleonline.com/site/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=24976:la-nina-phenomenon-to-persist&catid=2:news&Itemid=3

It has been several years that in the rainy season, or as some of my friends point out when the clouds set up, that Guyana's capital city of Georgetown and outlying area comes under severe flooding. Obviously, when the Dutch designed these canals and physical layout of Georgetown they did not factor in El Nino, La Nina, and global warming. Unfortunately, these conditions are not going away anytime soon nor in the foreseeable future. So what is a nation to do....

I wonder if there are any feasibility studies done or contracted to be done to inquire what options are available to better deal with this doomsday scenario. It is only a matter of time that this city will sink into the Atlantic Ocean. Is anyone asking if the capital can be relocated like Brasilia in Brazil? Or better drainage systems like Rotterdam, in the Netherlands? Or even a system of canals like Venice which can be used for transportation as well as drainage? Just wondering....it would be sad if nothing is done to protect this beautiful ancient city.
